It’s a Tulip Festival Around Here

bouquets of tulips

Ah, spring! April showers and warmer temps have blessed us with bouquets of spring bulbs, especially tulips.

tulipa acuminata

Tulipa acuminata is a delicate heirloom delight from the Caucasus.

It’s still me versus the FOSRs (Fat Old Smart Rabbit), but we’re co-existing. I’ve also tried to think like a bunny and plant spring blooming bulbs accordingly. So, the tulips have shifted to the front where the regular walking of neighborhood dogs seems to keep rabbits uncomfortable. Daffodils decorate the back yard since all parts are poisonous and therefore nobody eats them.

For the collector tulips like Tulipa acuminata, I’m going even further and dotting them in the patch of spearmint. Its a bit more rocky between the driveways, so coarsely drained. Plus, the critters don’t like the mint oil on their fur.

I’m also doing some interplanting or layering of daffodils, tulips, and minor bulbs. The daffs keep out the wildlife and the bulbs seems to happily coexist. I get a nice spring show and lots of flowers for the house.
