Autumn Reflections

Oh, October! When the days are noticeably shorter and the light mellows. Leaves are falling and crunching underfoot. Trees are putting on their party dresses and shrubs are shining.

It’s also Oaktober. A whole month to celebrate the iconic oak! At a recent visit to Anderson Japanese Gardens with a dear old friend, we spent a few hours constantly delighted. The panoply of colors and textures of a carefully curated fall garden kept us spellbound. The elegant forms of Japanese architecture seamlessly wove into the studied plant forms.

However, what captured me more was reflections. I don’t think we use water enough in our gardens. I may have four birdbaths and a fountain, but these snapshots arrested my eye. From the hewn edges of cut stone to the studied rusticity of a carved boulder, in each leaves capture and hold your attention.

When was the last time you looked at nature’s reflection?
